Fun. Ready To Burn Bright At MTV Movie Awards

'It's an opportunity to have a performance that will be talked about forever,' band says of taking the Movie Awards stage on June 3.

Given that Fun. are the first musical act announced for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, you'd think they'd be privy to all sorts of insider info on the big show, like potential hosts, nominees, etc. But, you'd be wrong. Turns out, they're just as much in the dark as the rest of us.

"We haven't heard anything. Who's going to be there?" frontman Andrew Ruess laughed. "Jackie Chan? Jon Bon Jovi? They better be there, for sure."

Sadly, we can't vouch for either gentleman's availability on June 3, when the Movie Awards air live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. But we can tell you that the guys in Fun. are planning on making the most of their time on stage, by going big with their performance of chart-topping smash "We Are Young."

"It's one of the most flattering things that's happened to us on this rollercoaster ride of this song and this album, because I just remember watching all those award shows — like the Video Music Awards and Movie Awards — and you always wonder like how they're doing it, what their big reveal is going to be, all those other type of things," Ruess said. "We've had meetings about how our set's going to be and what it's going to look like, and it's so exciting. It's so exciting how much effort MTV puts into this show, like, we have to show up and play the song, but they build this whole entire world around us, and it's so amazing."

"It's also an opportunity to have a performance that will be talked about forever," guitarist Jack Antonoff added. "Like, I still talk about [the 2000 VMAs], when Eminem had the thousand people dressed like him, or when Smashing Pumpkins did 'Tonight, Tonight' [at the '96 VMAs] ... these are moments that, for us, growing up, last forever, and if we could pull off something like that, it would be amazing."

And as if being tapped to perform at the 2012 Movie Awards wasn't already a big enough deal for the band, there's also the fact that they've got previous MTV awards-show experience ... though, to be fair, this will be the first time they've actually been invited to attend.

"I went to the Video Music Awards when I was 14. My friend from camp had a friend who had a dad who was involved, and we sat near Rebecca Lobo and the Spice Girls," Antonoff said. "It was the year that Fiona Apple gave the big speech, which, in hindsight, was pretty inspiring. My mind was blown, and I thought 'This is just filled with famous people, and somehow I'm in the middle of it.' So, to be able to go back to an MTV awards show — not through a friend of a friend who has a dad who works at Viacom — but to actually be invited, is an honor."

The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

Apple and Samsung set to meet May 21st, hug it out over 48 hours

These two brawlers were given until July to come together and mediate over their numerous globe-spanning patent lawsuits, but it appears neither side needs to wait that long. According to Foss Patents, May 21st and 22nd have been circled on the calendar of a certain San Francisco courthouse, where Magistrate Judge Joseph C. Spero will attempt to arbitrate in a calm, soothing voice for two days straight. Presenting himself as a confidant who sits outside of the main litigation being conducted in San Jose, Spero has already asked both parties to open up and provide "candid" statements about the strengths and weaknesses of their own cases, as a first step towards identifying areas of compromise. Fortunately, he still has a few weeks in which to devise further cunning plans.

Russian Cargo Spacecraft Set to Swan Dive into the Pacific ? This happens all the time, please be SELECTIVE on space stories or any off topic [Space]

Progress 46, a Russian cargo spacecraft carrying about a ton of space waste, is schedule to splash down into the Pacific ocean today, at approximately 6:45pm Moscow time. The spacecraft's specifically targeted "burial site" is in a remote region of the water, far from any shipping routes, though by the time it's splashed down into the blue the dense layers of the Earth's atmosphere will have burned the Progress into a not-too-threatening debris. Fanatec's Clubsport pedals V2 bring improved brake and clutch feel to the virtual speedway (video)

Fanatec's Clubsport pedals V2 bring improved brake and clutch feel to the virtual speedway (video)

Around these parts, we're generally suckers for all things related to racing simulators. As such, we're excited to learn that Fanatec has unveiled its next generation of the Clubsport pedals that we reviewed over a year ago. Dubbed as the Clubsport pedals V2, the company refers to the peripheral as an "evolutionary" update to original, offering a trio of improvements. The clutch has been retooled to have a "regressive feel" that's said to be similar to a real automobile, while the brake is now of the hydraulic variety, featuring user replaceable synthetic oil -- naturally, it still has an adjustable spring and load cell pressure sensor for the utmost customizability. The final touch is merely some visual spice in the way of black anodization. Notably, there won't be any tuning kit available initially, and V1 owners might be disappointed to know that the company has opted not to offer an upgrade kit, citing costs and potentially complicated installation. Fanatec is aiming to have the Clubsport pedals V2 out by June, bundled alongside its Clubsport wheel, with pricing set at $250 for the US (€250 in the UK). Pre-orders won't begin until May, so in the meantime, shift over to the source link below and the video past the break for all the details.

Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr. Expecting Baby #2

The Hollywood baby boom continues with the announcement that Sarah Michelle Gellar and hubby Freddie Prinze Jr. are expecting their second child together. Sarah and Freddie are getting a new addition to their already beautiful family. It has been revealed that the Ringer actress is pregnant with baby number two. The couple already has a three year old daughter, Charlotte Grace. Although Gellar and Prinze have announced the pregnancy that is pretty much all they are confirming right now. There is no information as to whether or not they know the sex of the baby or when their new bundle of joy will be arriving. I would say she is probably due in the late fall but that is just my two cents. Maybe they will release more info soon but I doubt it they are very private and kept their first pregnancy on the down low if you know what I mean. As I am sure many of you are aware the couple married since 2002 met while filming the oh so bad it was good horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. Both Sarah and Freddie grew up in Hollywood but as adults have kept a [...]

Google Drive now offers a bumpy ride for Chrome OS dev-channel users

Image

You knew it was gonna happen, but Google's cloud-based storage service has now been married to its cloud-based operating system, as Chrome OS users who receive updates via the dev-channel may now benefit from integration with Google Drive. Most notably, Drive will now appear as an additional folder within the file manager, although the implementation isn't without its quirks. For example, our peers at TechCrunch described the inability to make these files available for offline access. It goes without saying that dev-channel releases aren't for everyone, but if you enjoy living on the edge, then be sure to take a peep at what Google has in store for the inevitable mainstream release.
