Uganda Education News: Muslims protest against Makerere University

Ultimate Media

A cross section of Muslims in Uganda have continued to protest against Makerere University for the incident in which a female Muslim student missed her exam after the lecturer in charge tried to force her to remove her veil before she enters the exam room.

Led by Muslim cleric Sheik Nuhu Muzata, the group says Makerere University needs to change its examinations regulations to accept muslin?s way of dressing.

Muzata says the university should have provided a female invigilator to check females putting on veils or any body covering dress instead of taking muslim dressing as a crime.

He says the major problem is that Muslims are not represented In Makerere University?s Council and top management, which makes such bodies to make regulations insensitive to Muslims.

The University administration has assured the Muslims students that they are free to wear their veils to exam rooms but females will have to be checked by female invigilators before entering the examinations room.
